Monster House Director to Helm Poltergeist Remake
They’re baaaaack!

The remake of 1982’s Poltergeist will be helmed by Gil Kenan, best known for his work on the ’06 family-friendly horror Monster House.
The MGM production will be produced by Sam Raimi, Nathan Kahane, and Roy Lee. Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, a self-confessed Poltergeist obsessive, is reportedly still on board to pen the screenplay. “Well, you know there’s not too much I can say,” Lindsay-Abaire told Collider last year. “I will say that I handed in a second draft and people are incredibly excited about it…I will also say that there are very few people who are as obsessed with the original movie as I am, so I would try to write a script that I would want to see as a fan. I will say that.”

Kenan seems a good fit for the remake considering the original’s PG rating, and the hire is perhaps further confirmation that the film will tread the same fine line between supernatural family film and all-out horror.
“It’s not ‘Saw,’ if that’s what you’re asking,” Kubdsat-Abaire continued. “I’m not trying to turn it into something else.”
Whether the remake will include the infamous ‘face-peeling’ scene remains to be seen. The news comes via Deadline.

most remakes don’t reach their full potential. i don’t if the directing, the acting, or the fact they’re running out of new material; to spice things up with the remakes, they go for shock value instead of a creeping, mounting dred.
